Kane Kitchen and Master Suite

The kitchen was a challenge because I had to work with 2 design obstacles, (1) being that the owner had just purchased a yellow AGA cooker and (2) the owner wanted to use an old dance floor (from Desperadoes - Country Western Bar) somewhere in the project if possible. Well we made everything work as you can see. The flooring is reclaimed antique heart pine from an old warehouse. The soap stone sink is cut from a single block of stone. The kitchen sink faucet has an articulating arm coming out of the wall

One major design that I came up with several years ago is the 45degree corner drawers, this allows for a drawer to be 32" deep! Skylight tubes provide light during the day. This is a great kitchen and shows how to use old or reclaimed materials tastefully.

I designed and built all of the components including the building structure. The room addition is all concrete and block. The interior shell was sprayed with 3" in insulating foam, this makes the room like a large igloo cooler. The bed is made from sapele. In the backgroung you can see the master bath through a glass wall where I poured a concrete wall around the toilet area and built a concrete wall for the free floating sapele vanity.

Standing in the master bath looking through the glass wall into the master bedroom area. Notice on the left wall is a built in storage for hanging and large drawers for folded clothes. The door unit has doors on the right and left sides making the center section a viewing window into the garden.

Standing over the tub looking through the master bath you can see the glass wall, concrete top and wall pieces. On the far side of the room are two bi-fold door that hide the laundry room. Notice the faucet coming out of the concrete wall, this piece was poured in a form on the ground, then hung on the wall. The concrete vanity top weighs about 250 pounds, keep in mind that the vanity is floating off the ground without supports! My only design request from the owner was that we use a small convex mirror as the only way see yourself.
