Special Projects

I designed this free standing Sub-Zero refrigerator / freezer combination for a client that fired the last designer because they could not figure out how to make it work. Notice that the bottom valance has air vents, this comes off easily because I had magnetic catches holding it in place. This allows the units to be placed with in the cabinet, then closed up for that hidden look.

I designed this custom pool bath vanity using black cypress as the frame and Ipe for the wood stats. The concrete is my standard color, I make this using black concrete dye. The sink vessel is recessed into the concrete 3". I added a heavy duty closet rod as the towel holder.

When designing some projects I work with my fabricator to do a mock up of what I want to do. Here I'm placing all of the components together to see if the how the veining of the backsplash looks. The fixture was a work of art, but it made a weird noise when running.

Calcutta Gold Kitchen

This kitchen remodel was done to create exact center lines. The previous design had the kitchen sink and range off center by 2". This drove the client crazy. I designed the new kitchen with hidden refrigerator drawers and ice maker. The massive Calcutta Gold island counter top took several months to find just the right color and veining and took 6 men to just lift it in place. The glass doors are really Lumicor panels with linen and behind that the back of the cabinet is hand blown mirror. The splash tiles are cut down 18x18 tiles by Waterworks.

Making the Kavaizinga Bar for the Black Walnut Kitchen

Completed

Installed without granite (notice slot)

Skinned with sub veneer

"The Bones" of the peninsula are the really the hardest to do because this is where everything has to be true. The lead cabinet designer (Brian Horne) took this project on a challenge. Getting a seamless look the carcass had to be designed to carry the weight of the granite (1/2 ton) and also be seamless in design (notice the top curved portion.)

"Design Concept"

Custom cabinetry means "Custom" so anything can be done in any finish, wood species or style.

Black Walnut Kitchen

Black walnut is a beautiful wood. The grain on all of the cabinets is vertical grain matched. The cooking island has a 60" Viking range with 2 warming drawers. The refrigerator id a 48" Viking with glass doors. The dual Viking wakk ovens are flanked by a microwave on the left and a Miele Coffee center. Below the microwave and coffee center is a 2"birch service tray/shelf.

Kane Kitchen and Master Suite

The kitchen was a challenge because I had to work with 2 design obstacles, (1) being that the owner had just purchased a yellow AGA cooker and (2) the owner wanted to use an old dance floor (from Desperadoes - Country Western Bar) somewhere in the project if possible. Well we made everything work as you can see. The flooring is reclaimed antique heart pine from an old warehouse. The soap stone sink is cut from a single block of stone. The kitchen sink faucet has an articulating arm coming out of the wall

One major design that I came up with several years ago is the 45degree corner drawers, this allows for a drawer to be 32" deep! Skylight tubes provide light during the day. This is a great kitchen and shows how to use old or reclaimed materials tastefully.

I designed and built all of the components including the building structure. The room addition is all concrete and block. The interior shell was sprayed with 3" in insulating foam, this makes the room like a large igloo cooler. The bed is made from sapele. In the backgroung you can see the master bath through a glass wall where I poured a concrete wall around the toilet area and built a concrete wall for the free floating sapele vanity.

Standing in the master bath looking through the glass wall into the master bedroom area. Notice on the left wall is a built in storage for hanging and large drawers for folded clothes. The door unit has doors on the right and left sides making the center section a viewing window into the garden.

Standing over the tub looking through the master bath you can see the glass wall, concrete top and wall pieces. On the far side of the room are two bi-fold door that hide the laundry room. Notice the faucet coming out of the concrete wall, this piece was poured in a form on the ground, then hung on the wall. The concrete vanity top weighs about 250 pounds, keep in mind that the vanity is floating off the ground without supports! My only design request from the owner was that we use a small convex mirror as the only way see yourself.
